When Peter André took over the Dorset Playford Weekend it was renamed the Hardy Annual. For the last two years the event has been organised by Alan Davies. This year they are being joined by Margaret Thomas for a long weekend event. The theme will be dances of the 17th and 18th centuries. Workshops will be arranged leading to the Halsway Assembly - a Ball on the Sunday evening. It is hoped to have a book and CD to accompany this so that dancers can share what they have learnt with their own club members.

Alan Davies is no stranger to Halsway Manor. He is well-known for his technique workshops. He has published two books. The first "Under The Greenwood Tree", is a collection of dances written by him for clubs who want to extend their repertoire. His second book is “Ring of Eight Celebrates”. The profits from it and the accompanying CD prepared by Lyndon are being donated to Halsway Manor. It is a collection of 17th and 18th century dances presented for 21st century dancers. It is in the style of the latter book and again working with Lyndon that the new book and CD will be produced.
Margaret Thomas is the Dance Leader the Ring Of Eight, a group of costumed dancers which specialise in dances from the Restoration period. The team has appeared at Festivals in England and abroad. She also teaches regularly at the Ferndown U3A group and the Winton Club. She has led workshops at Halsway Manor during the U3A weeks held here.
Susan & Peter Swann, playing piano-keyboard & fiddle respectively, are regular visitors to Halsway Manor. Although primarily dancers, they started playing together about 20 years ago. Their repertoire covers the whole spectrum from Traditional to Playford. They play regularly for courses and events at Halsway

The weekend is full board. It starts with dinner on Friday evening and ends after breakfast on Monday morning. On Sunday the main meal will be mid-day with a light supper in the evening. A cream tea on Sunday afternoon is included in the price.

Friday night’s dance will be a “Meet and Greet” to give guests a chance to renew old acquaintances and meet new friends.

There will be two workshops on Saturday and Sunday mornings with a coffee break between them. These will be devoted to learning the dances for the “Halsway Assembly” the Dance on Sunday evening. Both workshops will be using finesse to gain more enjoyment from the dances. Each afternoon will be free but depending on the weather, an activity may be suggested. After the afternoon tea there will be an optional workshop for callers and dance leaders who want to present the dances to their clubs.

The Saturday evening Dance will be well know favourite dances from the period giving dancers a chance to relax and enjoy dancing to Peter and Susan’s playing.

Although the format has been changed to a long weekend to make the event more attractive and the travelling easier, the traditional aspects like a glass of wine with Saturday dinner will be retained.
