Easter Contra 2008

The Easter Contra Party 2008 was absolutely fantastic’ said Elaine Norman, party-goer and Trustee of Halsway Manor Society. ‘Our American musicians, Rodney Miller on fiddle and daughter, Elvie, on accordion and piano, played the most wonderful and inventive contra music for four whole days.Even when dancers flagged, they could not help but respond to the driving rhythms and were soon balancing and swinging with renewed vigour."
The caller was the Lisa Greenlief, also from the US, who provided a varied programme of contras and squares. With clear, engaging and humorous calling she guided dancers expertly through many novel dance moves.
The event was so popular that Halsway Manor was full, with some guests sleeping out in local bed and breakfast accommodation. In addition to workshops in music making, Irish set dancing, singing rounds and new dances, there was a Great Easter Egg Hunt for the real chocoholics.
‘All credit to Meg Winters, the party‘s host, for enticing Lisa, Elvie and Rodney to Halsway and for ensuring everything went with such a swing’ said Elaine. ‘An Easter to remember ! And we danced off most of the effects of the excellent meals and all that chocolate !"
