40 years at Halsway Manor

There was a real party atmosphere throughout the Devon Playford Weekend (2nd-4th April 2008) as the dancers celebrated 40 successful years at Halsway Manor.
The weekend began with a sherry reception and on Saturday evening, the splendid cake, made by Sue Tyler, was cut by Pat Day, the only dancer to have attended all 40 weekends.
Andy Wilson, a Trustee of Halsway Manor Society, joined us for the Saturday dance and officially took over the future organisation of the weekend on behalf of the Society.
Carol Hewson led the weekend; her great sense of fun was perfect for the celebratory occasion. Gwyn George and Hilary Hudson, our musicians for several years, again provided music that kept the dancers on their toes. They made a great team.
The Devon Playford Weekend was started 40 years ago, in the 1968, by Maurice Buckland. He handed over the organisation to Bill Parrott in 1990 and after 10 years, Bill asked Patricia Reid to take over. Patricia has run the weekend since then with the support of Devon Folk.
We now wish Halsway Manor Society every success with the weekend in future years. |
