News from Halsway

Yetties weekend:

Alan Corkett writes:

49 guests arrived yet again to be entertained by the Yetties. The house party contained many staunch regulars but interestingly several newcomers and "Yetties fans" who have only been attending for one or 2 years.

They were not disappointed.

With Pete Shutler spraying notes and jokes like never before and Mac accompanying on the banjo and guitar, it was all hands to the wheel for Bonny who sings with such distinctiveness and control. The Friday Barn dance got off to a bright start. This year with callers from Dorset and Sussex, it was just like old times.

We enjoyed talks, music sessions and singing to lift the roof; Rosie Jex leading her team of bell-ringers to dizzy heights.

Saturday afternoon we chose from Bonny's Walk, Pete Shutler's Musicians and Alan Corkett's illustrated talk of his travels with the Southerners band, including photos from 1960s & 70s.

Deryck Deane's "where is this odd spot" caused everyone to stroll about looking at the Manor with fresh eyes trying to discover the unseen features. The limerick competition brought a large crop of superb entries.

Saturday evening was the high spot with the Public Concert and more song and jokes galore!

The enlarged audience crowded in and were visibly delighted and screamed for more. Some who could stay late enough were treated to further delights but the time just ran out.

Sunday continued in a similar vein with a Finale Barn Dance with dances easy enough for all to join in. After the "official end" with a cream tea an increasing band of fans now stay and chat over Sunday night before the long drive back on Monday to destinations afar, such as Norfolk, Yorkshire and other rare places.
